Carl Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship Application Rules
1. Eligibility:

Open to students who meet the published eligibility criteria:

Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 (college/university applicants), 2.5 (trade/vocational/technical applicants)

Demonstrated community service/volunteer work

Enrolled or accepted at an accredited U.S. college, university, or trade/vocational/technical school

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents
2. Application Requirements:

Complete and submit the official application form by the stated deadline

Submit all required supporting materials: transcript, proof of enrollment/acceptance, proof of community service, and essay(s)

Optional: reference or recommendation letter (must not be from a parent, immediate family member, or close friend)
3. Originality & Integrity:

All application materials, including essays and documentation, must be the applicant’s own work and truthfully presented

Applicants must not falsify, alter, or tamper with any supporting documents

Essays must be original and not written by AI or other third-party services
4. Reference Guidelines:

References should be from a teacher, counselor, employer, community leader, or other unrelated adult;
References from parents, immediate family members, or close friends will not be accepted
5. Submission:

Applications and all required materials must be submitted electronically via the application form found on the Carl R. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship page by July 18, 2025, at 11: 59 PM EST.

Late, incomplete, or incorrectly submitted applications will not be considered
6. Selection Process:

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, quality and impact of community service, and thoughtfulness and originality of the essay

The Scholarship Committee’s decisions are final
7. Award:
-
Two scholarships will be awarded: one to a college/university student, and one to a trade/vocational/technical school student

Award amounts and disbursement instructions will be provided to recipients
8. Notification:

Recipients will be notified by email or phone

Non-recipients will not be notified individually, but results may be posted on the scholarship website
9. Use of Scholarship Funds:

Funds are to be used exclusively for educational expenses (tuition, fees, books, or required supplies)
10. Publicity Release:
-
By applying, recipients agree that their name, photograph, and essay excerpts may be used for promotional purposes by the scholarship committee or fund.
11. Privacy:

Applicant information will be kept confidential and used only for scholarship purposes
12. Disqualification:

Any violation of these rules or the submission of false information will result in immediate disqualification

About Carl R. Price Jr.
Carl R. Price Jr. was a lifelong educator, journalist, community volunteer, and entertainment producer whose bright smile and generosity touched countless lives. Born in Topeka, Kansas, Carl dedicated his career to uplifting youth and strengthening his community—whether as a teacher in the Kansas City Missouri School District, a mentor through his pioneering Financial Aid Consulting Tutoring Service (F.A.C.T.S.), or a leader in local and national service organizations.
A proud graduate of Lincoln University, Carl believed deeply in the power of education and opportunity. He championed college access for underrepresented students by founding scholarship prep programs, organizing historic Black College Tours, and tutoring students at churches and libraries throughout Kansas City. His innovative spirit led him to launch community programs, talent showcases, self-help magazines, and mentorship groups that empowered generations to dream bigger.
Carl’s service extended far beyond the classroom. He volunteered with countless organizations, held leadership roles in the Urban American Outdoors TV team and the Midtown Kiwanis Club, and created welcoming spaces for all—whether through community chess events, cultural festivals, or church ministries. His tireless advocacy for education, the arts, and economic opportunity has been recognized with numerous local and national awards.
Carl Price Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and hope. His unwavering commitment to “lifting as you climb” continues to inspire and open doors for students pursuing their dreams in college, trade, and vocational pathways.
