Kansas City (Sept. 18, 2007) Urban American Outdoors was honored by the Black Historical Press Foundation as the Best Black TV Show of the Year, at the 3rd Annual Black Press All Star Weekend Awards ceremony which took place in Washington DC on Sept. 14, 2007.
The event started off with a special “Meet the Black Press” breakfast which was held at the Washington Post. This was followed later by the Awards Luncheon and ceremony. DC Livers, managing editor for Black Press Magazine and founder of The Historical Black Press Foundation stated” There was a lot of synergy in the room and friendships formed, being there in person was simply an incredible experience.”
Some of those awarded were Spike Lee who won for Best Black PSA, and Gospel Today which won for Best Black Gospel Magazine. The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon the late Gordon Parks, co-founder of Essence magazine, author of Choice of Weapon and photographer for LIFE and Ebony magazines. David Parks one of the main guest speakers accepted his father’s award. Other winners were Best Black Radio Network, Radio One and Black Songwriter of the Year, Ne-Yo and Best New Black Publication, Drahma Magazine. Evening celebrations had a VIP Winners Circle Reception and the Black Press After Party starred Hip Hop performer Young Jeezy live in concert.
The nationally syndicated Urban American Outdoors, with host Wayne Hubbard, is a reality sports adventure show that shows the outdoors lifestyle from a different perspective. Executive Producer Candice Price says, “Winning this wonderful award caught us totally by surprise because we were up against some great talent in the Black Television category such as Tyler Perry, Bobby Jones and Monique. This is truly a very special honor.”
Urban American Outdoors (UAO) is an award winning television program based out of Kansas City and was created by outdoorsman Wayne Hubbard. It is a reality sports adventure show that airs locally as well as nationally. UAO has mass cross over appeal reaching the traditional outdoors market as well as the underserved communities. The show not only shares the enjoyment of being outdoors, it also educates and tells the importance of conservation and preserving the heritage of outdoors lifestyle which includes hunting, fishing, scuba diving, boating from a different perspective.
