SODAS LIFE (Saving Our Daughters & Sons Lives) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles through outdoor recreation, conservation, environmental education, workforce development, and community engagement.

Our mission is to connect children, young adults, and families with opportunities that encourage healthy living, responsible stewardship of natural resources, career exploration, and lifelong learning.

Through hands-on experiences, educational programming, mentorship, and community partnerships, SODAS LIFE helps participants discover the value of America’s national parks, public lands, historic places, and natural resources while developing leadership, teamwork, and practical life skills that prepare them for future educational and career opportunities.

WHAT WE DO

SODAS LIFE operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes by providing programs that:

  • Promote outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles.
  • Introduce youth and young adults to conservation and environmental education.
  • Provide mentoring, leadership development, and workforce readiness opportunities.
  • Connect participants with information about careers, internships, scholarships, and employment opportunities related to public lands, conservation, recreation, education, history, and natural resource management.
  • Preserve and share historical, cultural, and educational stories through digital storytelling.
  • Encourage civic responsibility, volunteerism, and responsible stewardship of America’s natural and cultural resources.

Our programs serve children, young adults, families, schools, and communities from both urban and rural areas, creating opportunities to experience the outdoors while building confidence, leadership skills, and an appreciation for America’s natural and cultural heritage.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Community outreach is at the heart of SODAS LIFE.

Our educational initiatives encourage participants to explore the outdoors, develop practical life skills, and build meaningful connections with their communities and natural resources through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Programs include:

  • Urban Kids Fishing Derby
  • Conservation and Environmental Education
  • Outdoor Recreation Programs
  • Leadership and Mentorship
  • Workforce Development
  • Community Service Opportunities
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Career Awareness and Internship Support

Learn more about two of SODAS LIFE’s flagship initiatives:

  • HBCUI – Historically Black Colleges and Universities Internship Program

As the Program Partner for the HBCUI internship initiative, SODAS LIFE helps connect college students with life-changing opportunities that inspire careers in public service, conservation, history, education, cultural resource management, and America’s public lands.

Working alongside federal agencies, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and community partners, SODAS LIFE supports internship experiences that allow students to learn directly from professionals while gaining valuable real-world experience. Participants contribute to projects in national parks, historic sites, museums, archives, visitor education, digital media, natural resource management, interpretation, and community engagement.

More than an internship, HBCUI helps students build professional networks, strengthen leadership skills, explore meaningful career pathways, and gain the confidence to become the next generation of educators, historians, scientists, communicators, conservation professionals, and public servants who will help preserve and share America’s natural and cultural heritage.

Through this partnership, SODAS LIFE is proud to help prepare future leaders by expanding access to educational experiences, career exploration, and workforce development opportunities that create lasting impact for students, communities, and the nation.

  • Urban Kids Fishing Derby

The Urban Kids Fishing Derby introduces children ages 4–16 to the lifelong sport of fishing while promoting outdoor recreation, conservation, environmental education, and healthy lifestyles. For many participants, the program provides their first opportunity to catch a fish, creating memorable outdoor experiences that encourage confidence, patience, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for nature.

Beyond the annual fishing derby, SODAS LIFE partners with organizations to provide additional fishing clinics, educational camps, and conservation activities throughout the year. These initiatives include collaborative fishing programs with Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) and KYTX CBS 19 Chief Meteorologist Brett Anthony in Tyler, Texas, as well as community conservation projects such as planting milkweed habitats to support the Monarch Butterfly migration at Spring Valley Park in Kansas City, Missouri.

PREPARING TOMORROW’S WORKFORCE

America’s national parks, public lands, forests, historic sites, museums, and conservation organizations offer rewarding careers in education, interpretation, conservation, recreation, historic preservation, communications, digital media, environmental science, natural resource management, administration, information technology, engineering, law enforcement, hospitality, and public service.

Through educational experiences, mentorship, internships, and workforce development programs, SODAS LIFE introduces participants to these career pathways while helping them develop leadership skills, gain real-world experience, and prepare for meaningful educational and career opportunities.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, environmental scientists and specialists are expected to have thousands of job openings each year through 2034 as organizations continue to replace retiring workers and expand services. SODAS LIFE helps participants explore careers in conservation, public lands, recreation, environmental science, and related professions while building skills that support lifelong success.

SCHOLARSHIP

In grateful memory of board member Carl R. Price Jr., whose lifelong leadership, service, and vision helped shape the organization, SODAS LIFE proudly offers the Carl R. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship to support future leaders pursuing educational and career opportunities.

OUR COMMITMENT

SODAS LIFE welcomes children, families, students, educators, volunteers, and community members who share an interest in outdoor recreation, conservation, education, healthy living, and community service.

Through partnerships with educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, businesses, community organizations, and public agencies, SODAS LIFE expands access to educational experiences, workforce development, outdoor recreation, conservation, and community engagement opportunities that strengthen communities across the country.

Whether introducing a child to fishing for the very first time, helping restore habitat for pollinators, connecting a college student with an internship on America’s public lands, or preparing future leaders for careers in conservation and public service, SODAS LIFE is committed to creating opportunities that educate, inspire, and serve communities for generations to come.
